About the position

Our plaintiff-focused Law Firm is dedicated to fighting for justice on behalf of individuals harmed by medical malpractice, wrongful death, and sexual abuse and exploitation in medical care settings. We are seeking to expand our current team with an experienced Plaintiff's Medical Malpractice Paralegal based in New York. The ideal candidate will assist our attorneys with every phase of the litigation process, from pre-trial preparation through post-trial appeals, with a specific focus on personal injury, medical malpractice, and complex litigation cases. This is a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of our trial preparation and support in the courtroom.

Responsibilities

  • Assist attorneys in trial preparation, including gathering and organizing case materials, preparing trial exhibits, witness lists, and subpoenas, and assembling trial notebooks.
  • Maintain and organize case files, discovery materials, and relevant documents, ensuring all deadlines are met and case materials are up to date.
  • Draft legal documents, specifically pleadings, bills of particulars, and motions, and support discovery requests and responses under attorney direction as required.
  • Handle electronic and physical filing of legal documents with state and federal courts in accordance with local court rules.
  • Assist with the collection, review, and management of documents and evidence, including e-discovery, depositions, and witness preparation.
  • Serve as a point of contact for clients, updating them on case developments, answering questions, and gathering additional information as needed.
  • Provide in-courtroom support during trials, including managing evidence, coordinating witness appearances, and communicating with the legal team on trial logistics.
  • Conduct legal and factual research, as necessary, to support case development.
  • Monitor and manage case deadlines, including court appearances, depositions, and other case events.
  • Assist with administrative tasks as needed, including scheduling meetings, managing case-related correspondence, entering client information in management system, and other tasks as directed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and/or Paralegal Certification required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of litigation experience in personal injury or medical malpractice preferred. Trial experience is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of New York state and federal court procedures.
  • Proficiency in legal research tools (e.g., LexisNexis, Westlaw) and litigation support software.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and under tight deadlines.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and legal software.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously and effectively prioritize tasks.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact with clients and legal team members professionally.
