The Planner (GIS Analyst) position at the City of Richmond focuses on providing professional planning services with an emphasis on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) programming, mapping, and data management. Responsibilities

  • Perform data analysis and determine the best approach to the analysis, troubleshooting and selecting appropriate solutions.
  • Respond to inquiries and requests from internal and external customers for mapping and data products.
  • Manage and maintain databases to ensure accuracy and functionality, updating existing GIS databases based on new information.
  • Edit and update other forms of data and information as needed.
  • Assist in the preparation and adoption of citywide, district, and community land use plans, as well as zoning ordinances and policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in urban planning, civil or environmental engineering, landscape architecture, geography, geographical information systems, or a related field.
  • Three years of experience or an equivalent amount of graduate level training.

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong knowledge of GIS and cartography.
  • Experience with electronic databases and related software applications such as ArcGIS, ArcGIS Urban, and EnerGov.
  • Project management skills.
