About the position

The Planning Editor at Spectrum News 1 is responsible for overseeing the planning of daily news coverage, special events, and story development. This role involves managing schedules, staying informed on community and government agendas, and collaborating with newsroom managers and reporters to create timely and accurate content across various platforms. The position requires a creative and technical individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and values storytelling and accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Plan daily news coverage and special events.
• Manage schedules for daily and long-term news coverage.
• Stay updated on government and community agendas to follow ongoing stories.
• Write and edit news stories as needed.
• Collaborate with newsroom managers and executive producers on major stories.
• Work closely with reporters to create and plan future stories.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience in a television newsroom.
• 3+ years of experience as an Assignment Editor.
• Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Communication or comparable television work experience preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Ability to clearly communicate solutions and relate well with diverse populations.
• Ability to develop sources and manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
