The Plans Examiner 1 position at Pierce County involves reviewing residential and light commercial construction plans for compliance with building codes and regulations. Responsibilities
- Perform on-site inspections necessary to complete a review and answer questions from applicants and designers regarding code compliance.
- Review residential blueprints and construction plans for conformance with building and construction codes.
- May review light commercial construction plans for code compliance based upon certification level in the discipline under review.
- Provide information to architects, engineers, and the public regarding code compliance and plan corrections.
- Assist in identifying plan discrepancies with established codes or regulations and advise of corrective action of non-compliance before building permits are issued.
Requirements
- Two or more years of plans examining, building inspection, or other work related to the position.
- Basic knowledge of building codes, government regulations, and construction practices.
- Strong communication skills and negotiation abilities.
