About the position
The Plant and Train Operator position at Peabody's North Antelope Rochelle Mine (NARM) involves ensuring safe and efficient train movement and loading operations. This role requires coordination with dispatch and plant operations, as well as the ability to perform various tasks related to train and plant operations. The position emphasizes a safety-first culture and includes responsibilities such as inspecting locomotives, managing paperwork, and maintaining communication with other operators and the railroad.
Responsibilities
- Work safely and promote safe behavior in others
- Coordinate train loading operations
- Inspect locomotives and train cars for safety
- Verify paperwork for each train
- Operate track switches correctly
- Mount and dismount cars and locomotives safely
- Identify defects on cars to prevent issues during loading
- Use a brake stick as required
- Understand and implement red flag and blue flag isolation procedures
- Communicate with Dispatch and plant for efficient train movement
- Coordinate with railroads for train scheduling
- Document all necessary paperwork for loading operations
- Maintain cleanliness of locomotives and light vehicles
- Support and champion Peabody's Mission and Values
- Train on plant operations as needed
- Complete basic repairs in plant operations
- Troubleshoot lube systems and attend relevant training
- Train on sample handling procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Company
Requirements
- Minimum of one (1) year of train or mining related experience
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Demonstrated computer skills
- Ability to work in all types of weather conditions
- Ability to work a flexible schedule as required by business needs
- Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and overtime when required
- Ability to train others
