About the position

The Plant Automation Controls Engineer at Jack Link's Protein Snacks will lead and support automation controls initiatives within the Perry Plant. This role focuses on developing engineering solutions for production challenges, enhancing operational efficiency, and implementing innovative automation technologies. The engineer will serve as a subject matter expert in equipment controls, ensuring that projects align with the company's strategic goals and contribute to the overall productivity and innovation of the plant.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement automation controls to support plant floor strategies and improve efficiency.
  • Support operational and line efficiency initiatives within budget and schedule constraints.
  • Perform root cause analysis for system controls breakdowns.
  • Support the implementation of plant automation control projects as an expert.
  • Collaborate with project teams to assess opportunities for innovative designs and performance improvements.
  • Help lead and implement MES and SCADA systems.
  • Drive technical solutions by evaluating and recommending new technologies.
  • Support the development of the plant's long-range controls capital plan.
  • Coach and mentor Plant Engineers and Maintenance Technicians.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent work experience.
  • 2+ years of relevant work experience in automation controls or electrical engineering.
  • Project engineering experience including scope definition and cost estimation.
  • Knowledge of processing, packaging, and facility systems.
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities in a fast-changing environment.
  • Experience in programming PLCs such as Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or Mitsubishi.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the food industry or consumer packaged goods (CPG).
  • Familiarity with TPM, Six Sigma, LEAN, or other Continuous Improvement Methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of low and medium voltage power distribution and associated equipment.
  • Familiarity with SCADA and its supporting software: Ignition, Kepware, and SQL database management.
