About the position

The Plant Control Operators in Training position at Talen Energy's Susquehanna Steam Electric Station is designed for individuals seeking to gain nuclear training and experience in power generation. The role involves comprehensive training under the guidance of experienced supervisors and instructors, leading to the acquisition of a Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Reactor Operator License. Once licensed, the operator will be responsible for the safe operation of nuclear systems and various plant auxiliary systems, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and operational standards.

Responsibilities

• Participate in classroom training, lectures, and examinations.
• Perform control room and in-plant duties to gain knowledge of plant operations and equipment.
• Operate equipment and systems safely and competently according to approved procedures.
• Observe reactor and station equipment conditions, making adjustments as necessary.
• Shutdown the reactor when safety is compromised or operating parameters are challenged.
• Manually initiate Engineering Safety Features during transient and accident conditions if automatic operation fails.
• Perform duties as System Operating Representative for the Energy Control Process.
• Prepare clearances for maintenance and outages on plant equipment.
• Transmit and receive work requests for plant equipment outages.
• Coordinate with system operators for equipment switching and clearances.
• Start, regulate, and stop remote-controlled equipment, monitoring operations constantly.
• Perform refueling and fuel handling activities as assigned.
• Prepare and direct alignment of test procedures.
• Function as evolution coordinator for operations.
• Review and process changes to procedures, creating new procedures as needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 6 months of experience as a qualified non-licensed operator at Susquehanna Steam Electric Station or comparable facility.
• At least 12 months of experience as a qualified non-licensed operator at a comparable (BWR/PWR) facility.
• At least 18 months of experience as a qualified non-licensed operator at a non-comparable commercial power reactor facility.
• At least 6 months of experience as an active-licensed reactor operator at a comparable (BWR/PWR) facility.
• At least 12 months of experience as an active licensed reactor operator at a non-comparable commercial power reactor facility.
• At least 18 months of experience in a position equivalent to reactor operator at a military reactor.
• At least 27 months of experience at a non-nuclear facility.
• Valid driver's license.
• Satisfactory physical and mental condition as evidenced by passing company-provided examinations.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in petrochemical or similar process plants.
• Experience in steam propulsion plant design, construction, technical support, operation, maintenance, or training instruction.
