About the position

The Plant Controller role at BD is a critical position that reports directly to the Director of ISC Finance for Pharmaceutical Systems. This position is primarily responsible for overseeing the financial processes and conducting analytical analysis related to all Capital Expenditure (CapEx) and providing ad-hoc support for the Long-Term (LT) Strategy of the Pharmaceutical Systems Business. The CapEx and LT Strategy Finance Manager will coordinate and oversee all business cases related to new capital investments, working closely with plant controllers and the Global Industrial Engineering (GIE) organization across the business. In this role, the Plant Controller will provide essential financial analysis and interpretation to the operations team, aiding in decision-making processes that encompass overall financial performance, continuous improvement project analysis, capital and CB-2 development, new product cost development, strategic sourcing analysis, and other ad-hoc analyses. The position also involves partnering with the central team to ensure that standard costs are accurate and align with the cost improvement objectives set by operations. The Plant Controller will support the Finance Operations in developing annual strategic plans, budget packages, and quarterly forecasts for the manufacturing site. This includes validating production volumes, analyzing leverage, ensuring productivity factors are in line with expectations, and conducting reviews to ensure staffing and overhead spending are appropriate. Additionally, the role requires overseeing the development of capital expenditures, analyzing capital spending by project, and driving capital budgeting, forecasting, and reporting requirements. The Plant Controller will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with GAAP, SOX, legal/statutory requirements, and BD's internal finance policies, while ensuring timely and accurate financial performance reporting prepared by the plant finance team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide financial analysis & interpretation to the operations team to aid in decision making including overall financial performance, Continuous improvement project analysis, Capital and CB-2 development and analysis, New product cost development, Strategic sourcing analysis and Other Ad Hoc analysis.
  • Partner with the central team to develop and ensure that standard costs are accurate and meet the cost improvement objectives set by Operations.
  • Support the Finance Operations development of annual strategic plans, annual budget package, and quarterly forecasts for the manufacturing site.
  • Oversee the development of capital expenditures and analyze capital spending by project.
  • Assist with the analysis of inventory levels and days inventory on-hand (DIO) to ensure they meet ISC/Operations targets.
  • Responsible for ensuring the site meets compliance to GAAP, SOX, legal/statutory & BD internal finance policies.
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial performance reporting prepared by the plant finance team.
  • Review annual physical inventory and/or cycle-count program to ensure accuracy.
  • Work with Operations Finance to drive further standardization and process efficiency.
  • Prepare and communicate various operational metrics as required.
  • Special projects as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance required.
  • MBA/ CPA/ CMA preferred.
  • Cost Accounting, General Accounting, and Finance operations knowledge are all required.
  • 5+ years experience of increasing responsibility in a manufacturing environment supporting a plant.
  • Previous experience within Pharmaceutical Systems Operations Finance preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel as demonstrated by previous experience creating and manipulating complex spreadsheets (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc) required.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint) required.
  • Strong financial systems and tools knowledge and utilization skills. ERP experience is necessary; specifically, SAP experience.
  • Self-driven, proactive and seeks continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, matrixed, challenging environment with strong attention to detail.
  • Should be well organized and possess good analytical and interpersonal skills.
  • Possess a track record demonstrating the management of increasing levels of responsibility, successful business partnering at a senior level, and leading cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to improve controls and influence decisions through accounting knowledge and data driven financial analysis.
