About the position

The Plant Controller at Ash Grove Cement plays a crucial role in managing the financial operations of the plant. This position is responsible for performing general accounting duties and ensuring the accuracy of financial reporting. The Plant Controller prepares and maintains the annual budget and rolling forecasts, which are essential for the financial health of the organization. This role requires a strong understanding of accounting principles and practices, as well as the ability to analyze financial data to support decision-making processes. In addition to budget preparation, the Plant Controller assists in preparing the annual capital budget and operating budget, reconciling actual capital expenditures throughout the year. Monthly production and cost reports are prepared to provide insights into the plant's financial performance. The Plant Controller is also responsible for reconciling raw material, work in process, and finished goods reports, ensuring that all financial records are accurate and up-to-date. The month-end closing process is a critical responsibility of the Plant Controller, which includes providing general ledger reconciliation and preparing journal entries and accruals. This position also provides accounting support for accounts payable (A/P) and payroll systems, supervising the entry and submission of wage and salary payroll. The Plant Controller reviews and approves A/P invoices for completeness and accuracy, ensuring compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) procedures as outlined by the company. Overall, the Plant Controller is a key player in maintaining the financial integrity of the plant, providing cost data to various departments, and performing various accounting duties to support the entity. This position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work independently while adhering to company policies and objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
  • Assist in preparing the annual capital budget and annual operating budget.
  • Reconcile actual capital expenditures throughout the year.
  • Prepare monthly production and cost reports.
  • Perform reconciliation of raw material, work in process, and finished goods reports.
  • Conduct month-end closing by providing general ledger reconciliation and preparing journal entries and accruals.
  • Provide accounting support for accounts payable and payroll systems.
  • Supervise and review the entry and submission of wage and salary payroll.
  • Review and approve accounts payable invoices for completeness and accuracy.
  • Follow Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) procedures and maintain proper evidence as required.
  • Maintain plant equipment list and fixed asset list.
  • Provide cost data to various departments.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

  • Minimum 4 Year / Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or closely related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or closely related roles.
  • Proficient in English written, verbal communication, and listening skills.
  • Ability to make decisions and exercise sound judgment in arriving at conclusions.
  • Ability to perform, organize, and prioritize work independently.
  • Knowledge of plant office responsibilities including payroll processing and accounting procedures.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office365 Excel and Word applications.
  • Ability to utilize various software programs to maintain accurate records and generate reports.
  • Ability to regularly maintain confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work from general policies and objectives.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification.
  • SAP experience is preferred.
