About the position

The Plant Controller will play a critical role in overseeing the financial operations of the manufacturing plant located in Bloomington, IN. This position requires a strong financial leader with experience in complex manufacturing environments. The Controller will be responsible for maintaining the policies and procedures that govern the financial operations of the plant, including data processing, standard costs, expense budgets, forecasting, profit planning, and capital expenditures. This role involves direct supervision, leadership, and mentorship of the accounting department staff, ensuring that all financial activities align with corporate guidelines and standards. In this position, the Controller will prepare the plant's monthly and annual financial results, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. They will also be tasked with developing the annual business plan and forecast, coordinating activities related to accounting costs and budgets, and reviewing operations to establish acceptable bases for measuring product costs and expense control. The Controller will analyze financial and operating information as required, measure monthly operating performance against approved goals, and optimize cash flow by anticipating sales and costs to develop business forecasts and annual profit plans. The Controller will facilitate the monthly closing process by reviewing accounting data and ensuring accuracy in financial reporting. They will coordinate year-end physical inventory processes and prepare appropriation requests for capital expenditures. Additionally, the Controller will conduct internal auditing procedures, prepare and audit monthly budget analyses, and review plant procedures to assess cost-saving effectiveness. Compliance with Quality, Environmental, and Material Management System requirements is also a key responsibility, ensuring that all accounting transactions are recorded effectively and timely.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare plant monthly and annual financial results in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Prepare the annual business plan and forecast.
  • Coordinate the activities of the plant in the areas of accounting costs and budgets through the review of operations.
  • Prepare analysis of financial and operating information as required.
  • Measure monthly operating performances against approved goals and objectives.
  • Optimize cash flow by anticipating sales and costs to develop business forecasts and annual profit plans.
  • Ensure proper account distribution for items expensed, inventories, fixed assets, etc.
  • Facilitate the monthly closing by reviewing accounting data and computer runs for accuracy.
  • Coordinate the taking of year-end physical inventory to assure accurate ending inventory balance.
  • Prepare appropriation requests and justification for capital expenditures in accordance with Corporate guidelines.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Conduct internal auditing procedures.
  • Prepare and audit monthly budget analysis and updates for adjustments.
  • Review Plant procedures to determine cost-saving effectiveness and overall effectiveness of meeting the Plant's goals.
  • Administer and ensure compliance with Quality, Environmental, and Material Management System requirements.
  • Ensure that all accounting transactions are recorded in an effective and timely manner.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Recent experience in a manufacturing plant with supervisory responsibilities.
  • Experience with computerized accounting systems and proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Proven ability to interact with senior management and corporate personnel.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, training, and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective leadership skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of financial and budgetary controls.
  • High degree of professionalism along with organizational skills, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Ability to motivate and delegate authority to subordinate personnel.
