About the position

We have partnered with a manufacturing company in Asheville, NC to source their next Controller. This position is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the company and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. The Controller will report directly to the President and will have one direct report. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years of progressive experience in accounting and finance, particularly in a manufacturing environment. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of accounting functions, including the preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP, and the ability to analyze financial data for discrepancies and issues. The Controller will also be responsible for preparing forecasts and business plans, ensuring timely compliance with sales and property tax reporting, and maintaining strong internal controls. Additionally, the Controller will act as a mentor to other finance department staff, providing guidance on accounting-related topics and processes. This position is critical to the financial health of the organization and requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP
  • Prepare accurate and timely forecasts and business plans with input from management
  • Analyze financial statements for discrepancies and other issues, and report findings to President
  • Ensure the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating, and entering transactions
  • Ensure timely and accurate Sales Tax and Property Tax compliance reporting
  • Support payroll functions as required
  • Provide data analysis for other departments on a range of financial topics
  • Act as first point of contact for staff on day-to-day accounting topics to ensure proper accounting treatment under US GAAP
  • Maintain strong internal controls
  • Identify and resolve issues pertaining to accounting procedures and established practices
  • Oversee external and internal financial audit process and provide all necessary worksheets/data
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting
  • Assist with development and support for short and long-term operational strategies
  • Mentor others in the finance department on accounting related topics/processes

Requirements

  • Experience with ADP - Financial Services
  • Comprehensive understanding of Accounting Functions
  • Demonstrated experience in handling Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR)
  • Ability to conduct Auditing tasks
  • Knowledge of SAP software
  • Familiarity with Property Tax regulations
  • Skills in Budgeting and Forecasting
  • Experience in Financial Statement Preparation
  • Proficiency in ADP - Payroll systems
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to handle high levels of pressure and critical decision-making
