About the position

The Plant Controller position in Des Moines, IA is a full-time role that encompasses a wide range of responsibilities related to the financial management and accounting functions of the plant. This position is pivotal in ensuring that all financial reporting is timely, accurate, and compliant with US GAAP and company policies. The Plant Controller will lead the analysis of financial information to support effective business decisions and will be responsible for developing and interpreting financial data. This role supports a single location and may have direct reports, focusing on maintaining a high standard of controllership across all plants. The Plant Controller will also play a crucial role in change leadership, interpreting results, and making recommendations to the Plant, Sales, and Business Unit Leadership Team. In this role, the Plant Controller will supervise, review, and interpret month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial reports, as well as manage the month-end close processes. They will support the annual budget, monthly and quarterly forecasts, and provide financial comparisons and explanations of actual results versus estimates. The position requires a thorough analysis of material usage, cost statements, profit and loss statements, manufacturing statistics, labor analysis, and sales analysis. Additionally, the Plant Controller will conduct balance sheet analysis for key accounts, including inventory, and will prepare or approve account reconciliations. The Plant Controller will also analyze and interpret operating and financial results to identify trends and activities driving those results, making recommendations for operational and financial changes to improve performance. They will provide business partnering services to the Business Unit by enhancing financial processes and supporting the implementation of best practices across all sites. Furthermore, the Plant Controller will act as the anchor person for the reporting work of the plant, identifying performance issues to support management processes and integrating new company acquisitions into the Business Unit. As a systems expert for HFM, SAP, and PRMS (ERP), the Plant Controller will ensure that month-end rollovers are completed accurately and that all necessary central adjustments are made in each financial system. They will actively participate in or lead WCOM Teams, validate cost take-out and factory model data, and ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and SOX. The role also involves overseeing financial processes to ensure conformance with US GAAP and company policies, influencing plant leadership to drive performance, and leading SAP implementations if applicable. Additionally, they will execute human capital processes, including goal setting, performance reviews, and career development for all direct reports, while demonstrating and fostering company values.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; MBA preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in accounting or finance; 5+ years of managerial experience; 1-3 years of experience in SAP preferred.
  • CPA or similar certifications preferred.
