About the position

As a Plant Controller at Silgan, you will play a crucial role in the financial management of our manufacturing facility in Evansville, IN. This position requires a strong background in accounting and finance, particularly in a manufacturing environment. You will be responsible for analyzing and accurately reporting the current month's financial results to plant, sales, and corporate management, ensuring compliance with corporate formats and timelines. Your duties will include preparing monthly reports, forecasts, and annual operating plans, as well as strategic planning to support the company's financial goals. In this role, you will submit all financial transactions and reporting in a timely and accurate manner, ensuring the accuracy of physical inventory and investigating any discrepancies. You will lead monthly inventory audits, maintain perpetual inventory for finished goods, and reconcile this with production, shipping, and returns on a daily basis. Additionally, you will analyze potential excess and obsolete inventory items monthly and be responsible for internal controls at the plant, ensuring adherence to Sarbanes-Oxley regulations. You will also develop and maintain standard costs, create and maintain bills of materials, and attend daily production meetings to discuss production and costing issues. Your role will involve reviewing labor reporting, materials, manufacturing overhead, distribution costs, returns, and inventory levels. You will supervise a small team of 1-3 accounting staff, verifying and controlling the purchasing of fixed assets and other monthly expenditures. Responsibilities

  • Analyze and accurately report current month's financial results to the plants, sales and corporate management.
  • Prepare monthly reports of results, monthly forecasts, annual operating plan and strategic planning.
  • Submit all financial transactions, transmissions and reporting on a timely and accurate basis.
  • Ensure accuracy of the physical inventory and report all findings.
  • Investigate and explain book-to-physical variances.
  • Assemble and lead monthly inventory audits and report findings.
  • Maintain a perpetual inventory for finished goods and reconcile this perpetual to production, shipping and returns daily.
  • Analyze potential excess and obsolete inventory items monthly.
  • Responsible for internal controls at the plant for operations and finance.
  • Assure adherence to Sarbanes-Oxley regulations.
  • Resolve questions and internal controls with corporate financial management.
  • Analyze internal controls to ensure assets are adequately safeguarded and results are accurately reported.
  • Develop and maintain standard costs, create and maintain bills of materials.
  • Attend daily production meetings.
  • Perform periodic walkthroughs of the plant with the Director of Operations to discuss production and costing issues.
  • Review labor reporting and cost, materials, manufacturing overhead, distribution cost, returns and inventory levels.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience as a Plant Controller or Cost Manager in a manufacturing environment, managing a staff with emphasis on cost accounting, reporting and variance analysis.
  • Excellent computer skills and the ability to create and modify spreadsheets.

Nice-to-haves

  • MBA, CMA OR CPA with solid cost accounting background.
  • Experience with JD Edwards and system conversion.
  • Multiple years' experience as a Plant Controller.
