About the position

The Plant Controller will be a key member of the Management Team and responsible for providing financial support to the Operations Management Team. The Team is charged with continuously improving Operational Efficiency and achieving our service level targets to our Customers. This role involves a comprehensive approach to cost management and support, ensuring that all financial aspects of plant operations are monitored and optimized. The Plant Controller will play a crucial role in identifying improvement opportunities and implementing cost control initiatives to enhance the overall financial performance of the plant. In terms of responsibilities, the Plant Controller will monitor, track, and report on key Operations areas such as Unplanned Downtime, Scrap, Machine Efficiency, Labor Utilization, Material Utilization, and Plant Spending. They will provide financial guidance and support in the creation of Capital Authorization Requests (CARs), ensuring accuracy in financial justification and payback, while also managing and controlling CAR projects and spending in SAP. The role requires maintaining inventory levels within target ranges and ensuring compliance with Sabert Operating Authority/Approval matrix, as well as maintaining an appropriate internal control environment. The Plant Controller will also be responsible for materials management and reporting, which includes daily monitoring of raw materials issuance and actual resin blends compared to expected blends. Budgeting and financial reporting are critical components of this role, as the Plant Controller will facilitate the annual budgeting process and periodic forecasts, prepare monthly financial statements, and provide cost and variance analysis to identify negative trends and recommend corrective actions. Additionally, they will prepare a daily flash report of key financial information to keep the management team informed.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor, track and report on key Operations areas such as Unplanned Downtime, Scrap, Machine Efficiency, Labor Utilization, Material Utilization, and Plant Spending.
  • Implement cost control and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Provide financial guidance and support in the creation of Capital Authorization Requests (CARs) and ensure accuracy of financial justification and payback.
  • Manage and control CAR projects and spending in SAP.
  • Monitor inventory levels and ensure they are maintained within the target range.
  • Ensure compliance with Sabert Operating Authority/Approval matrix.
  • Ensure appropriate internal control environment.
  • Overall responsibility for accuracy of BOM's and routers and accurate standard costs in SAP.
  • Support Sabert NA/Corporate purchasing initiatives to drive cost savings.
  • Daily monitoring of issuance of raw materials and packaging to ensure accurate work order information.
  • Daily monitoring of actual resin blends compared to expected blends.
  • Facilitate, coordinate and execute the process for annual budgeting and periodic forecasts.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and department/cost center reports.
  • Provide cost and variance analysis, identifying negative trends and recommending corrective actions.
  • Prepare daily flash report of key financial information.

Requirements

  • A degree in accounting or finance.
  • A minimum of 7 or more years of progressively responsible experience working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong cost accounting knowledge and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of SAP or similar ERP systems.
  • Excellent knowledge of GAAP.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Strong cost accounting and knowledge of plant operations.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and responsibilities; strong organizational skills.
  • Capable of working at a detailed level; hands-on.
  • Operates with a sense of urgency; ability to manage to deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Expert user of PC technology, including reporting tools.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; comfortable working at all levels of the organization from the plant floor to senior management.
  • Ability to work and thrive in a high growth environment.
