About the position

The Plant Designer for Mining and Minerals will be responsible for planning, developing, and reviewing mechanical design work, producing drawings and documentation, and preparing project estimates. This role involves coordinating with clients, facilitating technical discussions, and ensuring compliance with regulations and standards in mechanical designs.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare layouts, study drawings, and detailed 2-D and 3-D CAD design models and construction drawings under the supervision of the Lead Plant Designer.
  • Collaborate with technical staff and project managers to prepare comprehensive project schedules, scopes, and objectives.
  • Provide input to Process Flow Diagrams (Flowsheets).
  • Perform early project design work related to facility layout and equipment general arrangement.
  • Navigate 3D models to check for interferences and constructability.
  • Develop designs for complete and complex engineering systems and components used in mining, materials handling, and refining facilities with minimal supervision.
  • Assist with preparation of assigned material requisitions and bid evaluations.
  • Participate in constructability and model reviews.
  • Prepare design and drafting procedures to standardize team efforts and processes.
  • Attend jobsite visits to resolve problems and interpret drawings.
  • Prepare reports of work progress for project and discipline use.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Computer Aided Design and Drafting Technology or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant working experience.
  • Sound knowledge of design and drafting techniques, engineering drawings, and reproduction methods.
  • Experience with multi-discipline interface management and global 3D model oversight.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD application version 2020 or newer.
  • Familiarity with CADWorx and/or Autodesk Plant 3D.
  • Ability to 3D model in a complex multi-discipline environment.
  • Experience with modeling common mechanical equipment on mining and metals projects.
  • Expertise in reading, interpreting, and using related documents and drawings prepared by other project groups.
  • Knowledge of engineering and construction materials related to design responsibilities.
  • Familiarity with NI 43-101 and/or SK1300 reporting and requirements.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
