The Plant Engineer position at Frederick County Public Schools involves a range of responsibilities focused on the maintenance and operation of school facilities. This may include collaborating with other staff members and contractors to ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget. The role may also require the Plant Engineer to assist in training and supervising less experienced staff or helpers in the trade, fostering a collaborative and educational work environment. Responsibilities

• Perform routine inspections and maintenance of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical issues as they arise.
• Assist in planning and executing facility improvement projects.
• Collaborate with other staff and contractors to ensure project completion.
• Train and supervise less experienced staff or helpers in the trade.

Requirements

• High school graduate or GED and/or completion of a vocational course.
• Three years of experience as a helper in the appropriate trade preferred.
• A valid CDL Virginia driver's license with air brake endorsement preferred.
• A journeyman's license for trade designation from the Commonwealth of Virginia preferred.
• Strong knowledge of standard practices and terminology within carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC trades.
• Skill in the use of appropriate tools and equipment.
• Ability to follow simple verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to work independently and manage responsibilities effectively.
