About the position

The Plant Maintenance and Telemetry Technician is responsible for the maintenance and repair of the City Water and Wastewater Treatment facilities and Telemetry System. This skilled position involves participating in preventative maintenance programs, performing electrical maintenance, and ensuring the proper functioning of various treatment plant components under general supervision.

Responsibilities

• Participates in preventative maintenance program, special projects and the repair of water, wastewater sewage collection and telemetry systems.
• Participates in maintenance of plant and collection system generator sets, performs electrical maintenance and repair, as required, for lift stations.
• Digs and backfills ditches, as required, for installation of new or existing electrical lines.
• Repairs and maintains electric motors, pumps, blowers, main electric panels, pump controls panels, telemetry servers, towers and other facilities.
• Cleans and maintains preventative maintenance sheds and work areas.
• Maintains inventory with respect to materials needed to perform preventative maintenance program.
• May operate light equipment and crane truck in order to pull pumps.
• Help in the repair and maintenance of water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
• Performs related functions as assigned.
• Cleans trucks, sweeps and cleans warehouse and storage yard areas.
• Drives City Vehicles (A valid Florida Driver's License is required).
• May assist other departments in non-essential jobs.

Requirements

• High School Graduate or GED required.
• Some experience in the repair and maintenance of treatment plants, utilities distribution and collection facilities; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must have valid Florida Commercial B Driver's License.

Nice-to-haves

• Knowledge of the materials, methods, practices and equipment used in the maintenance of treatment plants and skill in their use.
• Ability to work from sketches, maps and blueprints.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
