About the position

Performs skilled labor in the installation, maintenance and repair of City Water Plants and equipment; maintains and adjusts equipment to meet job specifications and technical codes.

Responsibilities

  • Performs skilled labor in the installation, maintenance and repair of Water plant equipment and components.
  • Reads and interprets technical manuals.
  • Assists with maintenance of facilities and grounds.
  • Checks facilities and equipment to verify proper operating conditions and identify maintenance needs.
  • Repairs equipment and components and performs preventive maintenance on mechanical and electromechanical equipment and components as directed.
  • Repairs and adjusts equipment and components; verifies equipment functions meet job specifications and technical codes.
  • Performs maintenance activities within scope of authority, and in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.
  • Notifies supervisors of problems beyond the scope of authority.
  • Maintains Water plant work areas in a safe and orderly condition.
  • Operates and maintains a variety of specialized vehicles and equipment in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.
  • Identifies and reports vehicle and equipment problems requiring additional repair.
  • Follows all safety rules and regulations; utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed.
  • Reports safety hazards, equipment problems and emergency situations.
  • Cleans up and stores hazardous materials according to City policy and procedures.
  • Responds to emergencies as needed.
  • Cross-trains in proper work methods and safety procedures.
  • Maintains daily work logs and records of maintenance services performed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • One year of technical maintenance experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License.
  • Ability to obtain a Class D Water license from Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) in five months.
  • Ability to obtain a Class C license within nine months of meeting TCEQ requirements OR ability to obtain Millwright I classification within nine months.
