About the position

The Plant Maintenance Technician III position at CCWA is a full-time role focused on the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment utilized at various water and wastewater facilities. This includes pelletization and dewatering facilities, ground reservoirs, elevated tanks, and water pumping stations. The technician will be responsible for diagnosing and repairing existing equipment, performing both low and high voltage electrical repairs, fabricating parts through welding and torch cutting, and rebuilding gear boxes and bearing assemblies. Additionally, the role involves the installation of new and re-built equipment, utilizing specialized rigging and lifting equipment as necessary. The technician will also engage in predictive maintenance on water and wastewater equipment, ensuring that all operations are documented accurately and within designated timeframes. This includes maintaining labor records charged to work orders and preparing or reviewing other necessary documentation. The role requires the operation of various tools and equipment, including welding tools, electrical testing equipment, and mechanical lifts, to complete work assignments effectively. Communication with supervisors, other employees, and vendors is essential to coordinate work activities and resolve any issues that may arise. The position may require on-call assignments and the performance of additional related duties as needed. Candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED, with vocational or technical training in industrial mechanics or electronics, and at least one year of experience in maintaining water and wastewater plant equipment. Specific certifications, such as the Georgia Water and Wastewater Institute Maintenance Technician, Class III certification, and Crane Operator Certification, are required within specified timeframes after hiring.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair existing water and wastewater equipment, including low and high voltage electrical repairs.
  • Fabricate parts by welding and/or torch cutting metal.
  • Repair gear boxes and rebuild bearing assemblies.
  • Repair AC and DC drives, drive trains, and motors using electrical testing equipment.
  • Install new and re-built water and wastewater equipment utilizing specialized rigging and lifting equipment.
  • Assist other personnel with the acquisition of parts and materials as assigned.
  • Perform predictive maintenance on water and wastewater equipment.
  • Process documentation associated with department operations, including labor records and work orders.
  • Operate a personal computer to enter, retrieve, and modify data using various software applications.
  • Utilize various equipment, power tools, and hand tools to complete work assignments.
  • Communicate with supervisors, CCWA employees, vendors, and others to coordinate work activities and resolve problems.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Vocational or technical training in industrial mechanics or electronics or a related field.
  • One year of experience in installing and maintaining water and wastewater plant equipment.
  • Georgia Water and Wastewater Institute Maintenance Technician, Class III certification (to be obtained within 18 months of hire).
  • Crane Operator Certification (to be obtained within 12 months of hire).
  • Proficiency in the essential functions of the position and ability to learn and apply CCWA policies and procedures.
