About the position

The Plant Manager at Pero Family Farms is a critical leadership role responsible for overseeing the operations of the Benton Harbor, MI facility. This position requires strong communication and leadership skills to manage various aspects of production, quality assurance, inventory control, and employee supervision. The Plant Manager will ensure compliance with safety regulations and operational standards while driving efficiency and productivity within the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily/weekly schedules and shifts at the Benton Harbor facility.
  • Monitor and control all costs associated with the facility, including production, supplies, and transportation.
  • Manage production, quality assurance, inventory control, sanitation, maintenance, purchasing, and employee supervision.
  • Work closely with the Food Safety Manager to ensure compliance with internal procedures and external audits.
  • Ensure adherence to OSHA guidelines and Primus Lab requirements.
  • Participate as a member of the company product recall team.
  • Provide leadership and direction for facility personnel, including motivation, evaluation, and guidance.
  • Maintain safety and health standards in the operational facility, ensuring zero accidents.
  • Prepare an annual budget and schedule expenditures for the facility.
  • Ensure preventive/predictive maintenance systems are routinely used for equipment and facility maintenance.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for customer issues related to equipment quality and service.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Agriculture, Food Science, or a related field.
  • A Master's degree is a plus.
  • 7-10 years of experience in a leadership role within the fresh produce or food manufacturing industry.
  • Proven experience as a Plant Manager or in a similar leadership role.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, quality control, and supply chain management.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in financial management and budgeting.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and compliance requirements.

  • Experience in organic farming operations.
  • Familiarity with warehouse management systems.
