The Plant Operator II position at the City of Beaumont, Texas, is a full-time role responsible for the operation and monitoring of water production facilities. The operator will work with the SCADA system to oversee flow rates, alarms, levels, pumps, and other equipment essential for the treatment of surface and ground water. This position requires the collection of water samples and the performance of physical and chemical tests to ensure process control. Operators will determine the correct chemical dosages through jar tests and calibrate chemical feed pumps accordingly. Additionally, they will manage distribution water flow changes and operate pumps, as well as accept chemical deliveries and maintain accurate records of plant operations. Limited maintenance on pumps and equipment is also part of the job, including changing out chlorine ton containers and operating a forklift. In addition to the essential functions, the operator will perform general housekeeping and maintenance duties, which include cleaning machinery and equipment, maintaining the lawn, and performing canal maintenance. The role requires climbing ladders and structures and may involve other duties as assigned. The working conditions for this position include exposure to various weather conditions, mechanical and electrical hazards, as well as chemical hazards and toxic gas vapors. Operators must be available for any shift and overtime as required. The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of surface water treatment processes, general computer skills, and safety procedures. They should be able to perform mathematical calculations, operate various equipment, and interact effectively with colleagues and the public. Physical requirements include the ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 60 lbs, as well as perform various physical tasks such as climbing, bending, and twisting. A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with experience in the operation and maintenance of pumps and similar machinery, particularly in surface water treatment plant operations. Candidates must also have experience with Excel spreadsheets and SCADA systems, and possess a valid Class C driver's license and a TCEQ Class C or B Surface Water Operator's License.
