About the position

The Utilities Plant Operator position at UNC Greensboro involves operating and maintaining the steam plant to provide steam for various campus needs. The role includes monitoring and operating large boilers, performing maintenance, and ensuring safety and efficiency in operations. The position is critical for the university's infrastructure, supporting food preparation, heating, and hot water supply. The operator will work primarily during the night shift and is expected to handle various responsibilities related to boiler operation and maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Observe, monitor, and operate one (1) 40,000 pound per hour and three (3) 50,000 pound per hour boilers and all related boiler plant machinery.
  • Operate the Computerized Boiler Control System.
  • Perform both corrective and preventive maintenance as required.
  • Record log readings at four (4) hour intervals and conduct visual inspections of operating equipment hourly.
  • Test boiler water and treat it with proper chemicals to maintain readings within prescribed limits.
  • Prepare boilers and pressure vessels for inspection by insurance company.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Requires certification.
  • Valid Driver's License.

Nice-to-haves

  • NIULPE 2nd Class License or equal class or grade operator.
