About the position
The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture is seeking a dedicated Plant Pathologist to join the Plant Protection Division. This position is crucial for those who have a passion for plant disease diagnostics and a commitment to protecting agriculture and natural resources. As a Plant Pathologist, you will engage in applied research and provide diagnostic laboratory services that are essential for plant inspection, certification, and disease survey initiatives. Your expertise will contribute significantly to the health of plants and the agricultural landscape in Pennsylvania. In this role, you will be responsible for leading at least one key component of the Plant Pathology program, which may encompass various areas such as nematology, virology, mycology, or bacteriology. You will implement established methods and techniques for the collection of samples and the identification of plant pathogens, ensuring that the agricultural community receives accurate and timely information regarding plant health. This position offers an opportunity to work closely with a team of professionals dedicated to advancing plant health and safeguarding our natural resources. The work schedule is full-time, with hours from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday, including a 30-minute lunch break. There is also the possibility of part-time telework, allowing you to work from home up to two days per pay period, provided you have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location within Pennsylvania. If telework is not feasible, you will report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. Responsibilities

Requirements
- Two years as a Plant Industry Lab Technician or equivalent experience in diagnosing plant diseases.
- Bachelor's degree in agricultural studies, botany, horticulture, environmental science, microbiology, or a related field with 15 college credits in plant sciences.
- An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes 15 college credits in plant sciences.
