About the position

The Plant Production Assistant Manager plays a crucial role in overseeing the production of all grass seed products at Central Garden & Pet. This position is responsible for managing the entire production process, starting from the release of production orders in SAP to the completion of these orders. The Assistant Manager will track and report on Key Process Indicators (KPI) to ensure that production goals are met efficiently and effectively. This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement in production processes. Key responsibilities include releasing production orders from SAP, printing necessary production paperwork, and ensuring that all materials are correctly matched with analysis labels. The Assistant Manager will also process daily TACK totals from each production line and compile this data to report on KPIs to the GEMBA Team. A significant aspect of the role involves calculating Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) for each production line, maintaining an OEE spreadsheet, and reporting these metrics to the Production Manager weekly. In addition to production oversight, the Assistant Manager will monitor inventory levels of raw materials to ensure that production needs are met without excess inventory. This position also involves supervising and coaching production employees, fostering a culture of quality and efficiency. Safety is a top priority, and the Assistant Manager will ensure that all employees are equipped with the necessary safety devices and adhere to safe working practices. The role requires a commitment to continuous improvement, seeking out better methods to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve product quality.

Responsibilities

• Assist in overseeing the production of all grass seed products from the start of releasing production orders to the finish of completing production orders within SAP.
• Release production orders from SAP and print production paperwork for each order, matching these with correct analysis labels for production.
• Process daily TACK totals from each line and combine that with production paperwork to track and report Key Process Indicators (KPI) daily to the GEMBA Team.
• Calculate Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) on each line daily and maintain an OEE spreadsheet that tracks OEE percentages, reporting these to the Production Manager weekly.
• Monitor inventory of raw products to ensure necessary items are on hand for production while minimizing excess inventory.
• Supervise and coach all production employees to build a dedicated workforce focused on quality production.
• Continuously seek improvements in processes to increase efficiencies, reduce costs, and enhance quality.
• Monitor safety at all times, ensuring production employees are equipped with necessary safety devices and are working safely.
• Assist in solving everyday problems to keep production on track to meet customer needs.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Experience with SAP preferred or willingness to learn.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
• Effective communication skills, both written and oral, including formal presentation skills.
• Ability to drive projects to completion with a sense of urgency.
• Teamwork attitude and collaborative skills are essential.
• Ability to perform manual labor, including lifting 50 lb. bags of materials.
• Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
