About the position

The Mechanical Project Engineer is a pivotal role within CertainTeed, responsible for driving improvements in plant infrastructure, process equipment, and production processes through both capital and non-capital projects. The primary focus of this position is to ensure the health and safety of all site-level employees while enhancing operational efficiency. The engineer will define, manage, and complete various projects aimed at meeting specific objectives, ensuring that all initiatives align with the company's commitment to safety and quality. In this role, the engineer will coordinate the design, construction, fabrication, installation, start-up, and modification of plant facilities, equipment, and systems. A cross-functional team approach is essential, as the engineer will need to maintain open lines of communication with all affected parties, fostering a collaborative environment. The engineer will also provide general engineering support for day-to-day business needs, making critical technical and financial decisions that impact the safe and efficient operation of the facility. Additionally, the Mechanical Project Engineer will be responsible for selecting vendors and contractors, collaborating with engineering and maintenance teams to implement efficient processes and products. The role requires creating comprehensive documentation to support the implementation and execution of all projects, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices. With a travel requirement of less than 10%, this position offers a balance of on-site and project management responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Define, manage, and complete capital and non-capital projects to meet objectives
  • Support a safe working environment and report unsafe acts or conditions
  • Coordinate the design, construction, fabrication, installation, start-up, and modification of plant facilities, equipment, and systems
  • Utilize a cross-functional team approach to ensure open communication
  • Provide general engineering support for day-to-day business needs
  • Make technical and financial decisions for safe and efficient operations

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering field
  • Understanding of mechanics and machine forces
  • Minimum of two (2) years in capital and non-capital mechanical project management in a manufacturing setting
  • Advanced computer skills (MS Office, CAD)
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
