About the position

As a Plastics Process Engineer at Watson Marlow Fluid Technology Solutions, you will be an integral part of a dynamic team dedicated to enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of our manufacturing processes. This role is pivotal as you will work collaboratively across various production and business units, ensuring that our products meet the highest standards of quality and safety. You will be operating within a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, where your focus will be on maintaining high-performing assembly lines and executing operational functions. Your leadership will be crucial in coaching and developing your team to thrive in this innovative environment. Your primary responsibilities will include improving manufacturing yields, cycle times, material utilization, and uptime by identifying opportunities for root cause elimination. You will employ a structured and methodical approach to problem-solving, utilizing statistical tools to enhance processes. Daily support for manufacturing processes will be a key aspect of your role, where you will resolve process upsets, implement process changes, and provide training as necessary. You will lead projects aimed at process and product optimization, cost reduction, and maintenance of business activities, ensuring that all equipment adheres to a Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) plan. In addition to these responsibilities, you will ensure that all products meet or exceed quality specifications, develop and document experimental plans, and support new product development activities. Your collaboration with other business areas will be essential in achieving manufacturing KPI targets and resolving product quality issues. You will maintain and develop process documentation, communicate project progress, and implement sustaining process controls to ensure permanent corrections are made. Your role will also involve implementing Statistical Process Control (SPC) measures to ensure that final products remain within customer specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate across production and business units to enhance manufacturing processes.
  • Improve manufacturing yields, cycle time, material utilization, and uptime.
  • Resolve process upsets and implement process changes.
  • Lead projects focused on process and product optimization and cost reduction.
  • Troubleshoot and support long-term solutions for process and equipment issues.
  • Develop, write, execute, analyze, and document experimental plans.
  • Support new product or process development activities.
  • Assist in achieving manufacturing KPI targets.
  • Maintain and develop process documentation and best practices.
  • Communicate project progress and implement sustaining process controls.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of BS EN ISO 13485 and cGMP standards.
  • Awareness of BS EN ISO 14644 clean room requirements.
  • Previous experience with AutoCad, Minitab, and Creo.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Organized, methodical, resilient, and approachable with strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with global colleagues.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of Change control and SPC's.
  • Delivery-focused with strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a similar role within the biotech or industrial markets.
  • Familiarity with fluid handling solutions and peristaltic pumps.
  • Experience in leading teams and mentoring junior engineers.
