About the position

The Hardware Applications Engineer at GE Aerospace will play a crucial role in developing innovative electronic products tailored to meet the needs of aerospace customers. This position emphasizes cross-functional development in electronic and electrical design, with a focus on leading engineering excellence and driving innovation in next-generation aerospace platforms. The role is based in Grand Rapids, MI, and offers a blend of onsite and hybrid work arrangements, requiring presence in the office for 2-3 days each week.

Responsibilities

  • Lead bids, proposals, and product concepts for new products.
  • Lead strategic technology planning for the Platform Hardware organization.
  • Develop multi-generational product plans focusing on hardware design initiatives.
  • Implement concept design on Independent Research and Development (IRAD) projects.
  • Apply design experience to existing programs implementing new technologies.
  • Provide technical expertise and leadership in new business pursuits with customers.
  • Drive effective project startup, focusing on initial implementation of product or design concepts.
  • Demonstrate superior technical expertise, assisting in hands-on design problem-solving and mentoring.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Electronics Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent.
  • 8-10 years of design experience in electronic design, custom logic design, and software development.
  • Experience with electronic product development.
  • Proficiency in stakeholder engagement, communication, and influencing skills.
  • Strong organization, written, and presentation skills.
  • Lean mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in engineering.
  • Knowledge and experience in complex avionics systems development.
  • Cross-domain design experience involving custom logic design, electronic design, or software.
  • Direct engagement with customers.
  • Experience designing microprocessor-based systems.
  • Experience with EMC and thermal testing and/or product qualification.
  • Capability to partner and drive alignment across matrixed organizations.
  • Experience with Earned Value and Activity Based Management methods.
