About the position

The PLC Programmer at USG Corporation is a critical role responsible for programming and troubleshooting control systems, including PLC and Robotics systems, Servo-Drives, and Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs). This position requires a strong understanding of HMI applications, specifically using Intouch Wonderware and Ignition for software development. The PLC Programmer will work under the direction of the PLC supervisor or other administrative staff, ensuring that all programming tasks are completed efficiently and effectively. Safety is a top priority, and adherence to the plant's safety policies and objectives is mandatory. The role involves not only technical skills but also collaboration with other technicians and operators to ensure smooth operations and maintenance of equipment. In this position, the PLC Programmer will be expected to troubleshoot process and equipment problems that may arise during shifts and after hours, responding appropriately to emergency calls. The role requires the ability to work with schematics and diagrams for electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic controls, ensuring that all troubleshooting, commissioning, and maintenance jobs are performed safely and on time. The PLC Programmer will also be responsible for completing projects within specified budgets and timelines, communicating value-added opportunities, and supporting operations to improve equipment reliability. Participation in training classes and seminars provided by USG or third-party training companies is also a key aspect of this role, ensuring continuous professional development and adherence to best practices in programming and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

  • Work safely as a top priority by adhering to the plant's safety policies and objectives.
  • Complete on time the safety training (Classroom, Hands-On, OTIS Web Site).
  • Support company policies, departmental instructions, and objectives in a positive manner.
  • Work with PLC equipment and HMI Programming tools.
  • Ensure all troubleshooting, commissioning and maintenance jobs are performed in a safe, efficient, and timely manner.
  • Troubleshoot process and or equipment problems that may arise during the shift and afterhours, by responding appropriately to emergency calls.
  • Willing to work on weekends as needed.
  • Report to PLC supervisor updates for assigned tasks and projects.
  • Work with schematics and diagrams for electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic controls.
  • Complete projects on time and within specified budget.
  • Work with other department technicians and operators to execute safely and efficiently the daily basis work orders.
  • Communicate value added opportunities and solution plans to improve safety and equipment performance.
  • Support operations and maintenance to improve equipment reliability.
  • Participate in training classes/seminars provided by USG or 3rd party training companies.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in programming and troubleshooting PLC and Robotics systems.
  • Strong knowledge of Servo-Drives and VFDs.
  • Experience with HMI applications, specifically Intouch Wonderware and Ignition.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic schematics and diagrams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to respond to emergency situations effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills to report updates and collaborate with team members.
