About the position

The programmable logic controller (PLC) technician will be responsible for day-to-day monitoring and upkeep of the plant control systems. This role is a day shift position but off shift support may be required at times.

Responsibilities

  • Work with engineering on capital projects.
  • Assist maintenance by reviewing program logic to identify field device issues.
  • Aid in maintaining and troubleshooting electrical and instrumentation equipment (HMI Graphics, Variable Frequency Drives, Control and Communications Networks, etc.).
  • Perform highly skilled electrical duties, including troubleshooting and repairing electrical systems, board level replacement and equipment.
  • Calibration and maintenance of field instrumentation.
  • Troubleshoot field devices using Rockwell Automation PLC programming software.
  • Maintain and catalog accurate backups for variable frequency drives and all other programmable equipment.
  • Work directly with the Engineering Group to improve the production process.
  • Act as a liaison between engineering and electrical contractors.
  • Own and manage electrical projects from conception to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Coordinate resources, materials, and personnel to successfully execute electrical projects.
  • Complete all required documentation.
  • Ensure effective communication and collaboration with relevant departments to minimize downtime and maintain production requirements.
  • Be willing to participate in off-hours support.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor/manager.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required (Associate's degree or trade school equivalent preferred).
  • Five years' experience in manufacturing environment.
  • Five years' experience working with automation controls software.
  • Ability to operate multimeter, oscilloscope, megger and other related electrical test equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electronic principles.
  • Ability to understand and interpret electrical schematic drawings and technical specifications.
  • Able to log onto PLCs and read and diagnose ladder logic for troubleshooting purposes.
  • Familiarity with commissioning, optimizing, and maintaining variable frequency drives.
  • Self-motivated, data driven, scientific problem solver.
  • Initiative-oriented with the ability to perform job functions independently without supervision.
  • Team player with a positive attitude and strong collaboration skills.
