About the position

The Michigan Department of Corrections is seeking a skilled Plumber to join our team at the Marquette Branch Prison. This position is essential for maintaining and repairing plumbing systems within the facility, ensuring that all plumbing operations run smoothly and efficiently. The successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including installing, repairing, and maintaining plumbing fixtures, pipes, and systems. This role requires a strong understanding of plumbing codes and regulations, as well as the ability to troubleshoot and resolve plumbing issues in a timely manner. As a Plumber, you will work closely with other maintenance staff to ensure that all plumbing systems are functioning properly. You will be expected to perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on plumbing systems, as well as respond to emergency plumbing situations as they arise. This position may also involve working with other trades, such as electricians and HVAC technicians, to complete larger maintenance projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Attention to detail and a commitment to safety are also essential in this role. This is a permanent full-time position with a competitive hourly wage, and the opportunity to make a significant impact on the operations of the Marquette Branch Prison.

Responsibilities

  • Install, repair, and maintain plumbing fixtures, pipes, and systems within the facility.
  • Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on plumbing systems.
  • Respond to emergency plumbing situations in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with other maintenance staff and trades to complete larger projects.
  • Ensure compliance with plumbing codes and regulations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve plumbing issues as they arise.

Requirements

  • Valid Michigan plumbing license or equivalent certification.
  • Proven experience as a plumber, preferably in a correctional or institutional setting.
  • Strong knowledge of plumbing codes and regulations.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in a correctional facility or similar environment.
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems and maintenance.
