About the position

This is a career-track position with position placement based on education, relevant job experience, and certification(s). All levels require the ability to work at all Yavapai College campuses and sites. The position is divided into three grades: Plumber I, Plumber II, and Plumber III, each with increasing responsibilities and requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform duties assisting with plumbing tasks as an apprentice including operation of equipment and completion of repairs.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on plumbing equipment.
  • Operate common hand and power tools to complete required repairs.
  • Complete work orders and related paperwork on an electronic work order system.
  • Assist with installing, maintaining, and repairing plumbing fixtures, pipes, and other systems.
  • Assist the lead plumber in performing plumbing repairs and prescribed preventative maintenance services.
  • Maintain data on existing preventative maintenance computer programs.
  • Monitor and maintain sewer systems, potable water, natural gas distribution, and irrigation systems.
  • Manage preventative maintenance and backflow preventer certifications.
  • Visually inspect various work areas to identify and detect problems.
  • Prepare and evaluate work orders and perform necessary calculations to estimate materials and supplies needed.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent.
  • Valid AZ Driver's License and a clean driving record.
  • Ability to follow work direction and work as part of a team.
  • Ability to adapt to workplace and workload changes.
  • Ability to perform the safe operation of vehicles, equipment, and power tools.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail with regard to work orders and timekeeping.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with peers and managers in person, by phone, and by email.
  • Ability to be on call 24/7 which may include evenings, weekends, and emergency call-ins as needed.

Nice-to-haves

  • Plumbing certification from an accredited plumbing program.
  • Ability to work independently under limited supervision.
  • Ability to read and implement preventative maintenance data as prescribed by manufacturers.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Knowledge of low and medium pressure gas systems.
