About the position

The University of Wyoming is seeking a skilled Plumber/Pipefitter to perform journeyman-level plumbing work essential for the inspection, repair, and maintenance of the university's water, gas, drainage, utility, and heating systems. This role is critical in ensuring the functionality and safety of various mechanical systems across the campus, including complex commercial and industrial setups. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and modifying these systems, which encompass utilities, heating, cooling, ventilating, process piping systems, pressure vessels, boilers, fire protection systems, and temperature control systems. In addition to routine maintenance, the plumber will be tasked with field design, layout, fabrication, and installation of plumbing systems. This includes reading and interpreting construction drawings and plans to determine the necessary equipment and materials for installation. The role requires proficiency in using tools to cut pipe passageways, bend pipes, and join them using various methods such as soldering and caulking. The plumber will also inspect gas heating and water systems for safety and compliance with building codes, taking necessary remedial actions when required. The position involves specialized plumbing tasks, including the replacement of plumbing fixtures, installation and maintenance of hot water and steam heating systems, and repair of various types of pumps. The plumber will also be responsible for recognizing and reporting hazardous materials, ensuring a safe working environment. This position is essential and may require the employee to work during emergency closures and winter closures as dictated by the nature of their job duties.
