About the position

The City of Henderson is seeking a qualified Plumber to join the Department of Public Works. This position involves installing, repairing, replacing, and maintaining plumbing equipment, mechanical systems, fixtures, and piping in various City buildings and facilities. The role requires working under general supervision and performing related duties as assigned. The successful candidate will be part of a team that ensures the plumbing systems within the city are functioning efficiently and effectively. This recruitment is limited to the first 100 qualified external applications, and the eligibility list created may be used to fill future vacancies for up to six months to one year, depending on employment status. Candidates must be prepared to undergo a rigorous selection process, which includes a performance examination and a structured selection interview. The assessment will evaluate the candidates' job-related education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The City of Henderson is committed to providing reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities during the selection process. The position requires a valid Nevada or border state driver's license and a current journeyman certificate/card at the time of appointment. Additionally, candidates must obtain an American Water Works Association (AWWA) Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester Certificate within six months of appointment. All required licenses and certifications must be maintained at the employee's expense. Candidates will also need to pass a nationwide fingerprint-based record check and complete Security Awareness and National Crime Information Center (NCIC)/Nevada Criminal Justice Information System (NCJIS) certification within six months of hire, with recertification every two years being a condition of continued employment.

Responsibilities

  • Install, repair, replace, and maintain plumbing equipment and mechanical systems in City buildings and facilities.
  • Perform related duties as assigned under general supervision.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant plumbing codes and regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.
  • Respond to plumbing emergencies and perform troubleshooting as needed.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.
  • Completion of an apprenticeship program as a plumber.
  • Three (3) years of qualified journey level plumbing experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Nevada or 'border state' driver's license.
  • Must possess a current and valid journeyman certificate/card at the time of appointment.
  • Possession of an AWWA Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester Certificate within six (6) months of appointment.
  • All required licenses and certificates must be obtained and maintained at the incumbent's expense.
  • Must pass a nationwide fingerprint-based record check and a wants/warrants check.
  • Must complete NCIC/NV Criminal Justice Information System certification within six months of hire/transfer.
