The Plumbing Draftsman position at a well-established local Mechanical Contractor in New Cassel involves working on large-scale projects that require a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. The role is integral to the planning and execution of plumbing systems, where the draftsman will create accurate estimates, sketches, proposals, and budgets in a timely manner. This position demands a thorough understanding of plumbing takeoffs, ensuring that all drawings and specifications are meticulously studied to guarantee accuracy in project execution. In this dynamic and fast-paced environment, the Plumbing Draftsman will oversee all aspects of projects from procurement to planning to implementation. This includes identifying project opportunities through established online platforms and assessing their compatibility with the company's capabilities. The draftsman will allocate the proper resources for assigned projects and collaborate closely with the engineering team to develop detailed schematics and system designs that meet the required standards. The role also requires the application of mechanical knowledge to ensure the efficiency and functionality of plumbing designs, incorporating ASME codes and standards into the plumbing system designs. The draftsman will conduct drafting and CAD work to produce precise drawings and utilize technical writing skills to effectively communicate design specifications. Staying updated on industry trends and advancements in plumbing design technology is essential for maintaining a competitive edge in the field. Additionally, the Plumbing Draftsman will prepare and participate in the presentation of cost and budget information, demonstrating proficiency in buyout procurement for materials and fixture packages. The position involves interfacing with various stakeholders, including association members, project inspectors, architects, engineers, city and county officials, clients, and insurance representatives, ensuring that high standards of workmanship are maintained throughout the project lifecycle. Monitoring the financial performance of projects against budgets is also a critical responsibility to ensure profitability.

Responsibilities

  • Create accurate estimates, sketches, proposals, and budgets in a timely manner.
  • Study drawings and specifications for plumbing takeoffs to ensure accuracy.
  • Oversee all aspects of projects from procurement to planning to implementation, ensuring timeliness, quality, and uniformity.
  • Identify project opportunities using established online platforms and assess project compatibility.
  • Allocate proper resources for assigned projects.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to create detailed schematics and system designs.
  • Apply mechanical knowledge to ensure the efficiency and functionality of plumbing designs.
  • Incorporate ASME codes & standards into plumbing system designs.
  • Conduct drafting and CAD work to produce accurate and precise drawings.
  • Utilize relevant skills such as technical writing and construction knowledge to communicate design specifications effectively.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in plumbing design technology.
  • Prepare and participate in the preparation and presentation of cost/budget information.
  • Interface with association members, project inspectors, architects, engineers, city and county officials, clients, and insurance representatives.
  • Maintain high standards of workmanship that adhere to original plans and specifications.
  • Monitor projects financial performance versus budgets to ensure profitability.

Requirements

  • 3+ years experience in mechanical estimating/drafting experience.
  • Experience in hospitality and plumbing healthcare is a plus.
  • Proficiency in AUTOCAD, Trimble, BIM 360, 3D, Fast Pipe.
  • Experience in a variety of project types.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Developed skills in written, oral, and listening communication to effectively engage with diverse audiences.
  • Plumbing/Piping experience is essential.
  • Quick Pen experience preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Good time management, verbal, and written communication skills are a must.
