About the position

Sheet Metal Inc. is seeking a Plumbing Estimator/Project Manager to oversee commercial mechanical construction projects. This dual role combines project estimating and management, requiring a strong background in plumbing and construction. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates, managing project execution, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates through plan analysis and quantity take-offs.
  • Develop conceptual estimates based on preliminary design documents.
  • Manage the subcontractor solicitation process, qualify subcontractor proposals, and negotiate scopes of work.
  • Create and itemize department-specific scopes and prepare comprehensive bid packages.
  • Develop critical path job schedules and evaluate long-lead procurement needs.
  • Collaborate with clients, engineers, and stakeholders to align project objectives, timelines, and budgets.
  • Perform value engineering and alternative analyses to optimize project costs and efficiency.
  • Track cost variances between progress estimate updates and reconcile final estimates.
  • Analyze historical project data to improve accuracy and efficiency in future estimates.
  • Contribute to design management, constructability reviews, and coordination efforts.
  • Plan, organize, and oversee project execution to ensure adherence to schedules and budgets.
  • Coordinate and communicate effectively with clients, engineers, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement strategies to mitigate potential delays.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
  • Track and manage project budgets, reconcile costs, and prepare detailed reports.
  • Oversee procurement processes to ensure timely delivery of materials and resources.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5+ years of commercial mechanical plumbing experience.
  • Strong background in construction, estimating, and project management for both plan and specification and design-build projects.
  • Proficiency in interpreting plans and specifications to create detailed cost estimates.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong understanding of value engineering, cost control, and project scheduling.
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Strong proficiency in plumbing systems, cost estimating, and project planning.
  • Possession of a valid Alaska driver's license and satisfactory driver record.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with QuoteSoft or similar estimating software preferred.
  • In-depth understanding of construction processes, value engineering, and scheduling.
