As a Plumbing/Fire Protection Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the development of plumbing and fire protection construction documents, including drawings, specifications, and calculations, using computer software for new and retrofit buildings/projects in the mission-critical environment. You will work independently with minimal supervision from a Senior Plumbing/Fire Protection engineer and will be expected to coordinate with other internal engineering disciplines to achieve successful, functional, and innovative designs for our clients. Your role will also involve performing field surveys to document existing conditions, engaging in the development of designs through sketches and electronic models, and ensuring project timelines are met while staying within budget. This position requires a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, with a preference for candidates who have EIT/PE certification and at least 5 years of experience designing plumbing and fire protection systems. Strong computer skills, particularly in software used for plumbing/fire protection design, proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit, and excellent communication and organizational skills are essential. You will collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams and work with vendors and contractors to ensure the successful delivery of projects.

Responsibilities

  • Development of Plumbing and Fire Protection Construction documents (drawings, specifications, calculations, etc.) using computer software for new and retrofit buildings/projects in the mission critical environment for review by Sr. Engineer.
  • Experience with design of Plumbing and Fire protection systems in mission critical facilities.
  • Work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Coordinate with other internal engineering disciplines to achieve successful, functional and innovative designs for our clients.
  • Coordinate with other building disciplines (architectural, structural, electrical, civil, etc.) to ensure compatibility with the design intent.
  • Assist with the development of job specific discipline specifications.
  • Light travel for project meetings/site observations.
  • Perform field survey to document existing conditions and/or observation of construction activities.
  • Engage in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
  • Perform and oversee the performance of calculations using company standard software, and proprietary manufacturer software.
  • Preparation of Contract Documents using Revit and AutoCAD software.
  • Create technical drawings, plans, and specifications for review by Sr. Engineer.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams, and work with vendors and contractors.
  • Ensure project timelines are met and project stays within budget.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
  • 5+ years' experience designing plumbing and fire protection systems
  • Experience in mission critical design is a plus
  • Strong computer skills and skilled in software typically used in plumbing/fire protection design (i.e., hydraulic calculations)
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit and Microsoft Office programs; Revit Experience is a must
  • Ability to communicate effectively and clearly
  • Self-motivated with knowledge of project design steps/requirements
  • Excellent organization and planning skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Sound knowledge of engineering fundamentals
  • Strong working knowledge of building, plumbing and fire codes
