About the position
The Plumbing Specialist position at the University of Tennessee - Knoxville is responsible for the maintenance and operations of campus plumbing systems, including installation and repair of utility piping systems, domestic water, natural gas, and chilled water distribution. This role requires a strong understanding of plumbing operations, particularly in high-pressure steam systems, and involves working in a technical and sometimes hazardous environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform work on steam distribution from the steam plant condensate return to the steam plant throughout all campus buildings.
- Manage campus owned domestic water, natural gas, and chilled water distribution, as well as sewer and storm water collection.
- Learn and apply knowledge of high-pressure steam operations, including the operation and repair of valves, expansion joints, steam traps, and pressure reducing stations.
- Conduct operations, installation, and repair of water systems, including valves, water reducing stations, backflows, and fire hydrants.
- Investigate, repair, and install industrial gas-fired water heaters.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid TN Driver's License.
- Minimum of three years of relevant plumbing experience or an equivalent combination of education and training.
- Good working knowledge of plumbing distribution systems and equipment.
- Skills in using plumbing tools and equipment.
Nice-to-haves
- Ability to read blueprints and develop material lists as needed.
- Experience in a highly technical and sometimes hazardous environment.
