About the position
The Plumbing Specialist I position at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, is responsible for the maintenance and operations of campus plumbing systems, including steam distribution, domestic water, natural gas, and chilled water systems. This role involves installation, repair, and operation of various plumbing components and systems, ensuring efficient and safe utility services across campus facilities.
Responsibilities
- Perform work on steam distribution from the steam plant condensate return to all campus buildings.
- Manage campus owned domestic water, natural gas, and chilled water distribution systems.
- Oversee sewer and storm water collection operations.
- Learn and apply knowledge of high-pressure steam operations, including the operation and repair of valves, expansion joints, steam traps, and condensate tanks.
- Work on water systems, including installation and repair of valves, water reducing stations, and fire hydrants.
- Investigate, repair, and install industrial gas-fired water heaters.
Requirements
- High school education or equivalent.
- Valid TN Driver's License.
- Minimum of three years of relevant plumbing experience or equivalent education and training.
- Good working knowledge of plumbing distribution systems and equipment.
- Ability to perform under pressure in public and departmental settings.
- Skills in reading blueprints and developing material lists.
