About the position

The Field Technician position at Green Building Automation (GBA) involves servicing and maintaining building automation systems with a strong focus on customer service. The role requires technical expertise in HVAC and control systems, as well as the ability to troubleshoot and repair issues effectively. The technician will work both independently and collaboratively, responding to service calls and assisting with system startups and commissioning.

Responsibilities

  • Service and maintain building automation systems.
  • Provide exemplary service to BAS service clients.
  • Troubleshoot and repair issues during service visits as needed or directed by BAS management.
  • Respond to emergency service calls promptly.
  • Assist with the startup, commission, and re-commission of customer systems utilizing pneumatic/electrical/electronic technology.
  • Maintain accurate As-Built drawing packages and update them in Visio, Excel, and/or Word.
  • Calibrate systems using basic electronic test equipment, such as multi-meters, network terminals, and/or a laptop.
  • Assist in static (stand-alone) and dynamic (total building interactive network) commissioning of software programming.
  • Set up operator workstations with associated software.
  • Perform regular job database backups.
  • Complete paperwork on time, including timesheets, expense reports, work orders, on-site documentation, and project status reports.

Requirements

  • Basic understanding of control logic.
  • Experience troubleshooting DDC systems, low voltage control systems, and computer networks.
  • Thorough knowledge of wired and wireless IP Technology.
  • Personable, service-oriented, and willing to work directly with the customers' on-site staff.
  • Valid and current Driver's License.
  • Capable of climbing ladders or using other lift equipment over 8 feet above grade and lifting items up to 50 lbs.
  • Knowledge of DDC control theory and applications related to HVAC/control preferred.
  • Prior experience in HVAC and/or Building Automation preferred.
  • AA/AS degree, Technical/Business School Certificate or Diploma, Skilled Trades Apprenticeship OR other post-high school training (two years duration) with a minimum of 5 years' experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Tridium and Niagara experience a plus.
