About the position

The Engineer position at the Heathman Hotel is a hands-on role that reports directly to the Director of Engineering. This position is essential for maintaining the hotel's operational integrity and ensuring that all systems function smoothly. The Engineer will be responsible for a wide range of tasks, including the maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical systems, HVAC, plumbing, and other essential hotel equipment. The role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to upholding the hotel's standards of service and safety. In this position, the Engineer will actively engage in the day-to-day operations of the hotel, ensuring that all equipment and systems are in optimal working condition. This includes routine maintenance, repairs, and cleanliness in guest rooms, public spaces, event spaces, and back-of-house areas. The Engineer will also participate in the hotel's preventative maintenance program, using their skills and intuition to detect equipment malfunctions and collaborate with supervisors to diagnose and repair issues. The ideal candidate will possess a Black Seal License and have a minimum of two years of experience in building maintenance, preferably in a hotel setting or a similar environment. The Engineer will be expected to maintain a good working relationship with other associates, promoting teamwork and fostering a harmonious working environment. This role is crucial for ensuring that the hotel operates efficiently and that guests have a positive experience during their stay.

Responsibilities

  • Uphold and role model the company's principles of People, Place, and ensure experiences of translocal hospitality, intuitive service, and collaboration.
  • Maintain a good working relationship with other associates by promoting teamwork and fostering a harmonious working environment.
  • Maintain all equipment, systems, and building components including mechanical and electrical systems, pumps, HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, locks, furniture, paint, wall coverings, tile, and other equipment.
  • Handle routine maintenance, repairs, and cleanliness in guest rooms, public spaces, event space, outlets, back of house spaces, and grounds.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with the hotel's safety systems and take corrective action on any maintenance or operating problems affecting security or operating conditions.
  • Participate in the room preventative maintenance program.
  • Use skills and intuition to detect equipment malfunctions and discuss machine operation variations with supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose problems or repairs.
  • Repair and maintain the physical structure of the establishment and furnishings as needed.
  • Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies/service procedures/standards; participate in all scheduled training classes and meetings.
  • Transport heavy boxes and packages within the hotel for maintenance and repairs.
  • Assist in delivery and setup of all new equipment such as televisions, mattresses, tables, chairs, etc.
  • Communicate with the Director on projects as assigned.
  • Respond to all guest requests in a timely and personable manner.

Requirements

  • Black Seal License - Required
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in building maintenance; previous experience as a hotel engineer preferred or comparable experience at an establishment such as an apartment complex or office building.
  • Basic knowledge of refrigeration systems, electricity, HVAC, and plumbing; certifications are a plus.
  • Proficiency in the English language in reading, writing, and verbal communication.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods, bend, climb stairs, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work by yourself, lead yourself, and make it count!
  • Ability to work varied shifts, that may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Nice-to-haves

  • Preferred experience with drywall and framing.
