About the position

Sidwell Friends School, a coeducational Quaker day school, is seeking a part-time PM Shuttle Monitor/Extended Day Assistant for its DC and Bethesda, MD campus. This role is primarily focused on supervising elementary students during their shuttle rides from the Lower School in Bethesda to the DC Campus and back. The shuttle service operates from 3:00 PM to 4:15 PM, with an additional time slot on Tuesdays from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. After the shuttle service, the assistant will transition into the extended day program, where they will engage with students in various activities. As a PM Shuttle Monitor, the individual will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of students during their shuttle rides. This includes marking attendance, escorting students onto the shuttle, ensuring they are seated properly, and engaging them in safe activities throughout the ride. Upon arrival at the DC campus, the monitor will check for any trash and ensure that all students have exited the shuttle before preparing for the next group. Similar responsibilities will be carried out at the Maryland campus, ensuring a smooth and safe transition for all students. In the role of Extended Day Staff Assistant, the individual will actively engage children in crafts, games, and various projects, while also supervising indoor and outdoor sports activities. The assistant will help students with homework and create a positive educational environment that fosters growth and development. This position supports the organization and implementation of both the After School program and the Enrichment Program, contributing to a well-rounded experience for the children in the program.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise elementary students on the campus shuttle from the Lower School in Bethesda to the DC Campus and back.
  • Mark attendance on a clipboard and cross-reference missing students with Nurse Wheeler.
  • Escort students safely onto the shuttle bus.
  • Ensure all students are seated and engaged in safe activities for the duration of the ride.
  • Check to make sure students are in their correct seating arrangements.
  • Check for trash and students to ensure the shuttle is empty and ready for the next group to board.
  • Mark that the bus is clear on the shuttle log.
  • Check Middle and upper students in on the attendance sheet.
  • Engage children with crafts, games, projects, and other activities as an Extended Day Staff Assistant.
  • Supervise both indoor and outdoor sports activities.
  • Help students with homework and create a positive educational environment.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Experience supervising children, preferably in a camp or after school setting.

Benefits

  • Hourly pay based on experience, ranging from $18.00 to $24.00.
