About the position

The Associate Chief of Staff (ACOS) for Ambulatory Care at the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System is responsible for leading and overseeing the daily operations of Primary Care and related programs across multiple VA facilities. This role requires strong leadership skills to implement VA policies, enhance patient care, and ensure high patient satisfaction. The ACOS will work collaboratively with various healthcare teams, promote innovative strategies, and maintain a culture of quality and safety in patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee daily operations of Primary Care and other programs at Temple, Waco, Palestine, and Brownwood VA facilities.
  • Implement VA policies and procedures in Primary Care, ensuring compliance with performance measures and patient satisfaction goals.
  • Collaborate with services supporting Patient Aligned Care Teams, including Nursing, Social Work, Mental Health, Pharmacy, and Dieticians.
  • Build new clinic and procedure spaces and enhance telehealth services.
  • Establish a culture of quality and safety, monitoring and evaluating care quality and appropriateness.
  • Promote innovation and engage the workforce to meet the needs of Veterans in patient care.
  • Review applications and credentials for medical staff membership and conduct interviews for prospective physicians and mid-level providers.
  • Implement and monitor in-house Continuing Professional Education (CPE) training.
  • Evaluate patient care through ongoing quality assurance programs and monitor clinical performance of staff.
  • Participate in planning, budgeting, and evaluation of primary care programs.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required; non-citizens may be appointed when qualified citizens are not available.
  • Doctor of podiatric medicine degree or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice podiatric medicine or surgery in a U.S. state or territory.
  • Completion of residency training in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.

  • Board Certified in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.
  • Primary Care leadership experience.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge of regulations and preparation for accreditation surveys.
