About the position

The Associate Chief of Staff for Geriatrics and Extended Care at the Central Texas VA Health Care System will serve as the Medical Director for the Geriatrics Program. This role involves supervising a team of healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants, while also providing direct patient care in hospice and palliative care settings. The position focuses on improving the quality of life for veterans with serious or terminal illnesses and includes responsibilities such as coordinating care, educating patients and families, and tracking outcomes to enhance service quality.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Medical Director for the Geriatrics Program at Central Texas VA Health Care System.
• Supervise physicians, fellows, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants.
• Provide direct patient care as an Attending Physician in the Hospice and Palliative Care Program.
• Coordinate care with interdisciplinary teams and specialists inside and outside the VA.
• Educate veterans, families, and staff on disease processes, medications, and care needs.
• Participate in screening veterans for Community Living Center (CLC) admissions.
• Track outcomes and report trends to improve quality of care in geriatric programs.
• Supervise and instruct medical students, residents, and fellows in an interdisciplinary team setting.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship is required.
• Degree as a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from an approved school.
• Full and unrestricted license to practice podiatry in a U.S. state or territory.
• Completed residency training in an accredited core specialty training program.
• Proficient in written and spoken English.
