About the position

The Deputy Chief of Anesthesia at the Veterans Affairs Central Texas VA Health Care System is responsible for overseeing anesthesia services, ensuring patient safety and comfort during surgical procedures, and managing anesthesia-related patient care across various settings. This role includes supervising medical personnel, conducting assessments, and participating in research and quality improvement initiatives. The position requires a strong clinical background in anesthesia and leadership skills to enhance the department's operations and patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Assessment and consultation for patients prior to anesthesia.
  • Provision of anesthesia during surgical, therapeutic, and diagnostic procedures.
  • Management of patients' life functions and vital organs during anesthesia.
  • Performance of general anesthesia, neuraxial anesthesia, and nerve blocks.
  • Direct patient care in operating rooms, PACU, ICU, and clinics.
  • Monitoring homeostasis during the perioperative period.
  • Diagnosis and treatment of painful syndromes.
  • Clinical management of cardiac and pulmonary resuscitation.
  • Evaluation of respiratory function and application of respiratory therapy.
  • Supervision and teaching of medical and paramedical personnel in anesthesia.
  • Participation in research and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Administrative involvement in hospitals and outpatient facilities.
  • On-call coverage as required.

Requirements

  • Doctor of podiatric medicine degree from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of residency training in an accredited core specialty training program.
  • Full and unrestricted license to practice podiatry in a U.S. state or territory.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.
