About the position

The Police Department Social Worker is a full-time, non-sworn position responsible for providing crisis intervention, short-term counseling, advocacy, community outreach, education, and other social service assistance to the Police Department and the community. The role involves working closely with sworn officers to assist individuals in distress and requires effective communication and collaboration with various community organizations.

Responsibilities

• Assist sworn officers in crisis intervention for individuals experiencing distress.
• Conduct interviews and gather information to provide community services.
• Serve as a consultant to police officers regarding case management.
• Follow up on referrals from police officers.
• Provide emergency social service assistance after normal working hours as needed.
• Compile and maintain resource material for police officers.
• Prepare detailed reports and correspondence as required.
• Maintain client confidentiality and records of case files.
• Attend community meetings to establish collaborative relationships.
• Conduct home visits and provide follow-up services to families.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
• Two years of experience in social science.
• Certified Licensed Social Worker.
• Knowledge of Federal and State laws applicable to Social Services.
• Ability to manage discretion in crisis situations.
• Ability to coordinate multiple assignments effectively.
• Ability to operate modern office equipment and practices.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
