About the position

The Detective Corporal position at the San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD) is a full-time role that requires a high level of independent judgment and familiarity with law enforcement practices. This position is responsible for leading and supervising various specialized units, including Investigations, Training, Intelligence, and Patrol. The Detective Corporal will perform field duties related to emergency responses, general and directed patrol, and the investigation of crimes and other criminal incidents. This role also involves traffic control, assisting in crime prevention activities, and executing other law enforcement services as assigned. The Detective Corporal is expected to develop policies and procedures, oversee their implementation, and ensure compliance with departmental regulations. In the Intelligence Unit, the Detective Corporal will continuously research and gather intelligence to maintain safe learning environments within the SAISD and the communities served. This includes developing crime analysis and data charts from various intelligence sources, serving as a liaison with state, local, and federal agencies, and creating photo arrays for eyewitness identification. In the Investigations Unit, responsibilities include preparing criminal cases for filing with the District Attorney's Office, conducting criminal investigations, managing case files, and testifying in court. The Patrol responsibilities involve supervising patrol operations, conducting roll calls, and responding to emergencies. The Training Unit responsibilities include planning and implementing training programs for new and existing staff, conducting background investigations on police applicants, and maintaining training records according to TCOLE standards. The Detective Corporal will also supervise and manage crime scene investigations and ensure the proper handling of evidence and property. This position requires a high level of professionalism, adherence to department values, and the ability to handle sensitive information appropriately.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise specialized units including Investigations, Training, Intelligence, and Patrol.
  • Conduct emergency responses and general patrol duties.
  • Investigate crimes and other criminal incidents, including property crimes and crimes against people.
  • Gather and disseminate criminal intelligence to law enforcement agencies.
  • Create investigative reports and prepare criminal cases for filing with the District Attorney's Office.
  • Conduct internal affairs investigations and assist in employee investigations.
  • Plan and implement training programs for new and existing staff.
  • Maintain documentation, storage, and safeguarding of evidence.
  • Testify in court and provide crime scene investigations.
  • Supervise patrol operations in the absence of the Sergeant.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent recognized by the Texas Education Agency.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License.
  • Licensed Texas Peace Officer with Intermediate Certification by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.
  • 5+ years of successful law enforcement experience as a full-time licensed peace officer.
  • Satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate's degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years Investigations Experience.
  • 8 years or more of Law Enforcement experience.
  • Experience in forensic investigations and technology.
  • Advanced Certification by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.
