About the position

The Police Major serves as a Commander of one of the major bureaus within the Police Department, such as Operations or Investigations and Support Services. This role is integral to the management team, contributing to the formulation of departmental policies and overseeing the planning, organization, and direction of police operations.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Commander of major bureaus within the Police Department.
  • Participate in the management team to formulate departmental policy.
  • Plan, organize, and direct the operations of the Police Department.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a related area.
  • At least two (2) consecutive years of service within the last five (5) years with the Springfield Police Department as a Police Captain.
  • Must possess a valid Operator's License.
  • Must hold a Missouri POST Class A license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Completion of a Master's degree.
  • Attendance at an executive training program such as the FBINA, Northwestern School of Staff and Command, Missouri Command College, FBI-LEEDA, or PERF-SMIP.
