About the position

The Greensboro Police Department is seeking dedicated individuals to join the Police Academy as Police Officers. This role is essential in maintaining public safety and trust within the community. Officers will undergo rigorous training and will be responsible for patrolling designated areas, preventing crime, investigating offenses, and responding to emergencies. Responsibilities

  • Complete a 25-week recruit training program at the Greensboro Police Academy.
  • Participate in daily physical training and assessments.
  • Patrol assigned areas of the city to prevent and respond to crime.
  • Investigate offenses and apprehend violators.
  • Respond to emergency situations, including accidents and crimes in progress.
  • Exercise judgment and initiative in handling routine and complex problems.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Valid North Carolina driver's license prior to starting the Police Academy.
  • Must be at least 20 years old by the completion of the Police Academy.
  • Pass a rigorous physical examination and drug test.
  • Pass a psychological examination and polygraph test if offered a conditional job.
  • Corrected vision of at least 20/20 in both eyes; uncorrected vision must be at least 20/100.
  • Hearing loss must not exceed predetermined limits.
  • Meet the state-mandated reading level requirement of 10th grade or higher.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in community service or public safety roles.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus.
