About the position

The Police Officer (Field Training Officer) position within the Department of Defense is responsible for training and guiding new police officers in their duties and responsibilities. This role involves providing instruction, monitoring field activities, and ensuring adherence to law enforcement protocols and standards. The officer will also engage in investigative work and enforce laws on a military installation, requiring the ability to carry a firearm and maintain a professional appearance.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct new police officers on their tasks and techniques, providing written instructions and reference materials.
  • Provide training in accordance with the Field Training Officer (FTO) Field Training Program.
  • Monitor activities in the field and provide guidance, assistance, and instruction to new police officers.
  • Make recommendations on performance/behavior issues concerning new police officers.
  • Provide technical advice and guidance on the enforcement of laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Perform investigative work using procedures and techniques to detect, investigate, and resolve crimes and incidents.
  • Conduct research, interview suspects, victims, and witnesses, and execute investigative techniques to resolve criminal activities.
  • Gather and analyze facts, take statements, and perform traffic law enforcement duties.
  • Perform law enforcement duties at fixed posts such as entry and exit gates throughout the installation.
  • Ensure new police officers perform work according to guidelines and SOPs.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen and pass a National Agency Check and local background check.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • Required to undergo pre-employment urinalysis and sustainment drug testing.
  • Must meet medical standards for police officers in the DoD 6055.05M and NMCPHC-TM-OM 6260.
  • Required to wear a uniform and maintain appearance and grooming standards per Marine Corps Orders/policies.
  • Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Must submit DD Form 2760, Qualification to Possess Firearms before appointment.
  • Must successfully complete a pre-appointment physical exam and maintain program height and weight appearance standards.
  • Must pass a sanctioned physical agility test and medical evaluation.
