About the position
The Lateral Police Officer position at the Milpitas Police Department involves performing law enforcement and crime prevention duties, controlling traffic flow, conducting investigations, and supporting various crime prevention programs. Officers will engage with the community, enforce laws, and maintain public safety in a diverse urban environment.
Responsibilities
- Patrol the City in a radio-equipped vehicle and respond to calls for protection of life and property.
- Conduct preliminary and follow-up investigations of criminal incidents.
- Enforce traffic safety laws and assist motorists during traffic incidents.
- Make arrests, interview victims and witnesses, and gather evidence.
- Prepare reports on arrests, activities, and unusual incidents observed.
- Direct traffic at emergencies and special events.
- Maintain contact with citizens regarding law enforcement issues and foster good public relations.
- Transport prisoners and serve warrants and subpoenas.
- Administer first aid as necessary.
Requirements
- Current law enforcement experience is required.
- Sixty (60) semester units or ninety (90) quarter units of college level studies in police science or a related field.

- Experience with community policing initiatives.
- Knowledge of local laws and regulations.
